What is the purpose of counselling and psychotherapy?

Therapy is a form of mental health treatment where you meet with a trained professional to talk about your feelings, thoughts and behaviours to address mental distress or difficulties.

It helps people change unhealthy patterns, develop coping skills and find solutions for issues like stress, trauma, or mental health conditions.

Therapy involves a collaborative relationship with the therapist, in a secure and supportive environment, whereby difficult emotions, life events and challenges can be discussed without judgement.

Therapy isn’t about instant solutions and is not a quick fix. It takes time and gentle exploration to unpack and untangle what’s going on beneath the surface.

Sessions usually occur on a weekly basis for one hour.
